Angular Milling
Angle milling is a machining process in which an inclined angle is machined on the workpiece.
As it is machined directly on the workpiece, it does not require grinding or dressing. This tool is mainly used on lathes, boring machines and drilling machines to machine parts with relatively simple shapes such as holes and slots.
The cutting motion path of angle milling is a straight line. The working part of the angle milling is parallel to the spindle and its axis coincides with the centre line of the machine tool spindle; the feed movement is a radial feed perpendicular to the main axis; the front angle of the cutting edge is generally 30° to 45° and the rear angle is 15° to 20°. In order to smoothly discharge the chips and reduce frictional resistance, a larger combination of front and rear angles is usually used. In addition, large helix angles or double helix angles are used to improve cutting performance.
Angle milling can be used for a wide range of purposes: drilling, reaming and reaming on lathes; roughing and finishing processes such as planing grooves and cutting off workpieces; and for special purposes such as removing excess metal burrs from castings and removing residual material from moulds.
